Ron DeSantis drops to third place in Republican race as campaign continues to stall

 July 24, 2023

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has fallen to third place in South Carolina for the race for the Republican presidential nomination as his campaign continues to collapse.

Three surveys released on Sunday all found former President Donald Trump is solidly in the lead in Iowa, New Hampshire, and South Carolina.

DeSantis had stubbornly held on to the second place spot in nearly every poll, until Sunday. In South Carolina, DeSantis fell to third place behind the state's former governor, Nikki Haley.

For most of the presidential race, there has been little movement. Trump has had an unchallenged lead, and DeSantis is the only other candidate who had a significant support base and a chance at unseating him.

Now DeSantis' campaign, which has arguably been stumbling for months, is finally losing ground to other candidates.

If this trend continues, Trump will likely be completely unchallenged come next July. However, a lot can change with the upcoming debates, which could shake the campaign up significantly.
