Residents call on Athens Mayor Kelly Girtz to resign after Laken Riley murder
The horrific murder of Laken Riley on the University of Georgia campus sent shockwaves through the entire nation.
The 22-year-old nursing student was allegedly beaten to death by an illegal migrant while out for a jog last week. Police reports indicated that she was beaten so badly that her skull was "disfigured" by the attacker.
According to the Daily Mail, during a recent briefing to discuss public safety in Athens in the wake of the brutal and horrific attack, Mayor Kelly Girtz, a Democrat who some say supports "sanctuary cities," was shouted down by those in attendance.
"The only appropriate number of murders in this community, the number that we are gonna be working our tails off every day for, is zero," Girtz said at one point, before protesters in the room interrupted him and suggested he's responsible for Riley's murder at the hands of an illegal migrant.
"You're a liar," a man shouted repeatedly as Girtz denied the sanctuary city claims. "You're the one who is guilty and got blood on your hands for this murder, sir!"
Residents of Georgia are fed up with criminal illegal immigrants being allowed to remain in the country and are demanding the resignation of Athens-Clarke County Mayor Kelly Girtz after the murder Laken Riley:

Some of the protesters in the room held signs that read, "Blood on your hands" and "Make Athens safe again."
Others, at times, demanded that Mayor Girtz resign his position as a result of the young woman's murder.
Some reporters in the room pressed Girtz on the sanctuary status, noting that the alleged murderer had several other illegals living with him. Girtz sidestepped the questions.
"We are deeply sorry for this tragedy," Girtz replied. "Responsibility for this crime rests solely upon the perpetrator."
He added, "'There's been no legislation from this government that’s created sanctuary city status."
Girtz was thoroughly dismantled across social media, with posts about his press conference garnering tens of thousands of comments, with an overwhelming number of them calling for his swift resignation.
"A speech this insulting to a victim of mųrder should get Mayor Girtz legally removed from office. This is absolutely abhorrent. Shame on him. Laken Riley was kįlled by an illegal who should’ve never been in the US. Every American should be able to acknowledge that," an X user wrote.
Another X user wrote, "Democrats really will do anything but blame their precious gang-member illegal immigrants."
