Reschenthaler suggests Republicans need to beat Democrats at ballot harvesting game

Rep. Guy Reschenthaler (R-PA) said Wednesday on Newsmax TV that Republicans need to start embracing mail-in voting and even ballot harvesting where it is legal so they can beat Democrats at their own game.

While Republicans have focused on in-person voting, he said, it may hurt them if people have an emergency or get sick and can't make it to the polls on Election Day.

"The Democrats are ruthlessly effective at harvesting ballots and focusing on ballots," he said. "I would argue they’re more focused on that than actual messaging. We as Republicans need to do both."

He acknowledged that it was mostly Democrats who made the rules about ballot harvesting (except in his state, where Republicans instituted no-excuse mail-in voting), but said it was time to play by their rules.

"We need to just say okay, these are the rules. We’re going to play by your rules and we’re going to beat you at your own rules,” he concluded.
