Republicans Reject Feinstein Committee Replacement

April 18, 2023

Senate Republicans have rejected temporarily replacing Senator Dianne Feinstein of California on the Judiciary Committee.

Democrat from New York, Chuck Schumer, the Senate Majority Leader, has been asked by Feinstein, a Democrat, to temporarily fill her slot on the influential Judiciary Committee.

The reason is that Feinstein is currently in the middle of an indefinite absence.

Without her, Democrats cannot advance their judicial nominees out of the committee.

But when Schumer tried to appoint a replacement, Republicans soundly rejected his attempt. Old Chuck needs at least 10 Republicans to agree on the Senate floor to replace Feinstein.

It doesn't look like it's going to happen.

Republicans like Senator Marsha Blackburn have said that they "will not go along with Chuck Schumer’s plan to replace Senator Feinstein on the Judiciary Committee and pack the court with activist judges. Joe Biden wants the Senate to rubber stamp his unqualified and controversial judges to radically transform America."
