Republicans preparing to face off with Biden administration over Afghanistan disaster

 February 14, 2023

House Foreign Affairs Committee Chair Michael McCaul (R-TX) has warned the Biden administration that its "stonewalling" will not work and that House Republicans are going to discover why the withdrawal from Afghanistan was so disastrous.

During an interview on Fox News' Sunday Morning Futures, McCaul said, "With respect to Afghanistan, there are a lot of questions unanswered there. I'm doing it for America, and our veterans who served so bravely, and our Gold Star Mothers who deserve answers as to why this went so badly — jeopardizing Americans and leaving behind so many."

The Afghanistan withdrawal has mostly passed from public memory but not for Republicans. Joe Biden and his administration have a lot of explaining to do as to why things went so terribly wrong.

McCaul continued by saying, "It's important because it's a very extraordinary measure of relief to have an emergency cable sent from Kabul to Washington to the Secretary of State and the White House. If they do refuse, I do have the subpoena power. I fully intend to exercise. I also want to know why the Taliban was put in charge of the entire evacuation."

The fight over information on Afghanistan is one of many that Republicans will have to fight over the next two years.

The Biden administration has been one of the least transparent administrations in modern history and Republicans will need an iron will to win this fight.
