Representatives Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) and Elise Stefanik (R-NY) have introduced two measures that would expunge former President Donald Trump's impeachments on grounds that they were politically motivated.
The measures seek to treat the two impeachments "as if such articles had never been passed."
The move is an unprecedented one, and Georgetown University Law Professor Jonathan Turley commented on it saying, "It is not like a constitutional DUI. Once you are impeached, you are impeached."
The measure to overturn Trump's 2019 impeachment brought forward by Greene asserts that Trump was "wrongfully accused of misconduct," and as such, the impeachment should be stricken from records.
Stefanik's measure aims to expunge Trump's 2nd impeachment on grounds that Democrats failed to prove Trump had committed "high crimes and misdemeanors."
Since Republicans hold a majority in the House of Representatives, it seems likely that Trump could finally see his record set straight.
