Republican Mike Lee calls for McConnell's ouster amid rumors of new Ukraine aid package

September 10, 2023

Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) is calling on Republicans to push for new leadership and replace Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) amid rumors that McConnell is working with Democrats to push yet another aid package for Ukraine.

Lee pointed to a Wall Street Journal opinion piece by Kimberly Strassel, who wrote, "Mitch McConnell has been making daily floor speeches on the need for more Ukraine funding, worried Mr. McCarthy can’t get this crucial aid past House GOP spending hard-liners. So Mr. McConnell is … signing up to help Mr. Schumer ram the whole package down the House’s throat."

Lee then stated, "With Republicans like these, who needs Democrats? We need new leadership. Republicans nationwide have grown tired of Senate Republican leadership supporting bills that unite Democrats (because they’re full of Democratic priorities) while sharply dividing Republicans."

Not only is McConnell behaving like a double agent, but he is also extremely old and appears to be suffering from declining health.

Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) certainly seems to believe that McConnell is dealing with serious health issues and would likely support an effort for new leadership.

Age issues aside, McConnell's repeated betrayal of the Republican Party is reason enough to give him the boot. Furthermore, the people of Kentucky must work to vote McConnell out and send him into a long-awaited retirement.
