Republican Larry Hogan says he will not be running for President in 2024

Former Maryland Governor Larry Hogan (R) announced during an interview with CBS’ Face the Nation on Sunday that he has no plans to run for President in 2024.

Hogan explained "I did give it serious consideration and I talked to people everywhere, and I talked to my family. And it was a tough decision. But I’ve decided that I will not be a candidate for the Republican nomination for president."

Hogan is a centrist Republican who has been a vocal critic of former President Donald Trump, and many suspected he would run against the former president to try and stop him from continued rule of the Republican Party.

However, it appears a combination of burnout and worries about a crowded field giving Trump an advantage has pushed Hogan to stay out of the race.

Hogan continued by saying, "I didn’t want to have a pile up of a bunch of people fighting. Right now, you have, you know, Trump and DeSantis at the top of the field, they’re soaking up all the oxygen, getting all the attention. And then a whole lot of the rest of us in single digits, and the more of them you have, the less chance you have for somebody rising up."

For now, the Republican field remains thin with just three candidates officially in the race. While that will likely change, Hogan is for sure out, and his decision to stay out may discourage other Republicans from entering as well.
