Republican Lance Gooden says Ron DeSantis isn't ready to be president

Representative Lance Gooden (R-TX) recently endorsed former President Donald Trump in 2024 over Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) after a private meeting with DeSantis.

Gooden explained his decision during an interview with Breitbart News Saturday by saying DeSantis is “not quite ready to be in Washington and in the presidency."

Gooden stated that, "In my heart, I thought I would probably eventually be on board with the Trump team, but I wanted to do my due diligence first and be able to actually honestly say that I had vetted the candidates, the serious candidates. And I spoke with DeSantis. He was a nice guy, but I realized he’s not quite ready to be in Washington and in the presidency. I think he’s done a decent job as governor and should probably finish out his term and focus on that."

DeSantis's rise to stardom in the Republican Party has been meteoric, and as far as Gooden is concerned, that isn't helping the governor's case.

Gooden continued by saying, "But we just can’t afford someone coming to the White House that doesn’t have experience and doesn’t know what they’re doing in the situation they’re in, and when we have an option, and that option is Donald Trump, that has the experience that knows how to defeat these people — and by people, I mean, the Democrats who are seeking to destroy our nation — it just seems crazy to me that we wouldn’t rally behind him and support his campaign, and so that’s what I’m doing."

DeSantis is a compelling candidate who doesn't have Trump's weaknesses. Unfortunately for him, Trump's hold on the Republican Party is simply too strong, and it seems like DeSantis will have to wait another four years.
