Rep. Lauren Boebert denies punching ex-husband at local restaurant

Colorado Rep. Lauren Boebert has once again found herself in the spotlight over domestic affairs.

The Republican lawmaker is now denying accusations that she physically assaulted her ex-husband during a run-in at a restaurant in her district, according to the Daily Mail.

Police responded to Miner's Claim, a popular restaurant Boebert said she specifically picked to talk to her ex-husband about an argument that the two reportedly had earlier in the day.

Boebert said she selected the public spot to avoid a "he said, she said" situation.

One of Boebert's aides described what they witnessed when her ex-husband, Jayson Boebert, showed up at the restaurant.

The Daily Mail noted:

He allegedly started 'being disrespectful,' and becoming 'lewd'  -- at which point he 'made a motion' towards his ex-wife 'to grab her,' according to her aide speaking to the Daily Beast.

The aide claimed the move was 'aggressive, not romantic.' Lauren then tried to keep him back and 'put her hand in his face, put her hand on his nose.'

The ex-husband reportedly called 911 to report that he had been a victim of "domestic violence." For her part, Rep. Boebert called the non-emergency line to explain what happened.

She denied punching him, as was originally reported.

"I didn't punch Jayson in the face and no one was arrested. I will be consulting with my lawyer about the false claims he made against me and evaluate all of my legal options," the Colorado lawmaker said.

She added, "This is a sad situation for all that keeps escalating and another reason I'm moving."

That referenced the bombshell news she made last week announcing that she would be switching districts. She barely won her last election in the current district she represents, only winning by 546 votes.

The Silt Police Department said an active investigation is being conducted to determine exactly what happened. No further comment from local police was available at the time of this writing.

Boebert's public debacle is yet another in a string of public incidents that are not doing her any favors. Last summer, she made headlines after being kicked out of a Beetlejuice musical for vaping and reportedly groping her date before flipping off the ushers and asking them if they knew who she was.
