The remains of a young French boy who went missing in July have been found close to the family home in the Alps from which he disappeared.

Hikers found the bones of Emile Soleil, a 2-year-old, and genetic tests proved that he was the boy who went missing.

Police had searched for him extensively after he went missing. The remains found were not complete; they included the skull and some other bones.

Authorities are searching the area for more remains or other evidence, and also studying the remains for evidence of how the boy died.

They closed off the area March 27 to complete their investigation and there are still restrictions in the area.

"It may be that body parts were taken away with wild animals, but no theory is being ruled out," they said.
