President Biden only Democrat on North Carolina primary ballot

 December 28, 2023

Democrats around the country are working overtime to protect President Joe Biden's chances of putting up a fight in the 2024 election.

According to JustTheNews, that was evidenced this week again in North Carolina after a vote decided that Biden will be the only Democrat on the ballot in the state for next year's primary race.

That means several Democratic challengers, including Rep. Dean Phillips (D-MN), author Marianne Williamson, and progressive commentator Cenk Uygur will not stand a chance in North Carolina, denying Democrat voters a choice.

The outlet noted:

The announcement from North Carolina’s board was the fourth instance of Rep. Dean Phillips, D-Minn., being unable to get on a ballot. His longshot challenge to Biden was also blunted in Florida, Tennessee and Massachusetts.

The decision by the state’s Board of Elections was reached by a vote from three Democrats and three Republicans.

On the Republican side, seven candidates will appear on the ballot, including former President Donald Trump at the top.

The North Carolina Republican ballot will include Trump, "Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson, and pastor and businessman Ryan Binkley."

Notably, Libertarians submitted a list of 10 candidates, who will all be included on the ballot.

JustTheNews added:

The Green Party did not submit candidates for the primary but can nominate a candidate for the Nov. 5 general election. The No Labels Party nominates general election candidates by convention rather than primary.

Social media reacted to the news of Biden being the lone Democrat. Williamson was one of the first Biden challengers to cry foul, claiming that the DNC is rigging it to exclude any potential competition.

"BREAKING: President Joe Biden's challenger Marianne Williamson (@marwilliamson) EXPLODES, says the primaries are being rigged, says, "Florida, Tennessee, North Carolina, now Massachusetts," are four states that have decided to have only @JoeBiden on the ballot, says she's complied with the rules but they are robbing people of their voices," journalist Simon Ateba posted on X.

He added, "My take: Where is democracy in the Democratic Party in the great United States of America? Where is "We respect the rule of law"? Where is "Democracy is at stake and we must save it"? Where is all the talk about Trump being the one trying to end America's democracy?"

Only time will tell if more states follow North Carolina in making such a decision.
