Pope Francis draws strong criticism for 'white flag' comments on Ukraine

Pope Francis has come under intense criticism for his comments calling on Ukraine to wave the "white flag" and negotiate an end to the war with Russia after years of war that has cost billions and the lives of thousands.

The comments were made during an interview recorded last month with Swiss broadcaster RSI and released on Saturday.

The Pope's comments were a breath of fresh air for those who have recognized the brutality of the war and the need for an end.

Pope Francis stated, "I think that the strongest one is the one who looks at the situation, thinks about the people and has the courage of the white flag, and negotiates. Do not be ashamed to negotiate."

Of course, these comments were rebuked by multiple world leaders, as the popular position is for Ukraine to continue grinding away men and resources in a pointless war.

The conditions that soldiers are enduring on the front cannot be overstated, and while peace requires Russia to come to the table, the instant criticisms from world leaders don't help either country to do that.
