Convention of States President Mark Meckler pointed to a new poll as evidence that an indictment of former President Donald Trump would only benefit his path to the GOP nomination.

In the Trafalgar Group/Convention of States poll, 74% said they believed an indictment would either help or have no effect on Trump's chances for the GOP nomination.

Only 25.7% said they thought the indictment would hurt Trump.

“So, what it’s showing is that the American people really, generally speaking, aren’t interested in this [indictment], at worst for Democrats it’s gonna give him a boost. I think we’re already seeing that it gives him the boost,” Meckler said.

Meckler added that the poll shows that the potential indictment is "swinging independents towards Trump" as well.

"When President Trump gets attacked like this, we feel it personally," he continued. "Trump said at one point, ‘they’re not attacking me because they hate me, they attack because they hate you,’ and that’s what we see when we see this kind of assault."
