The world of cinema classics has lost another legend in recent days.

According to JustTheNews, Piper Laurie, best known for her roles in Carrie and The Hustler, died at age 91.

A representative reportedly told The Hollywood Reporter that Laurie had not been in good health for some time. A cause of death was not revealed.

The Hollywood Reporter noted:

An Emmy winner who was nominated nine times during her career, Laurie spent three years as a child in a sanatorium, broke free from her original contract at Universal Pictures, once went 15 years without making a movie and starred in the original production — for live television — of Days of Wine and Roses.

Laurie won multiple Oscar nominations in 1990 and 1991.

Given her fame and legacy in the business, an outpouring of tributes were posted via social media, including a touching message from conservative actor James Woods.

"This was a particularly painful announcement to read. Rosie (Piper Laurie) was a seminal figure in my career and one of the finest people I have ever met. We first worked together in a summer theatre troupe in Nantucket and I was starstruck. The Hustler is to this day one of my favorite movies and her performance was luminous and gut-wrenching," Woods wrote.

He added, "Promise is to this day my favorite experience and personal achievement, and Rosie was a big part of why I feel that way. We both won our first Emmys working with the great Jim Garner, and the pure joy of being with such remarkable artists was a cornerstone in my life. I loved you, dear Rosie, and my heart is broken."

"Piper Laurie, R.I.P. One of the greats. "Oh, that boy's not coming. He's not coming." Piper Laurie considered Carrie to be a comedy and she wasn't necessarily incorrect," an X user wrote.

Clearly, she left quite a mark on the industry and on her fans.

She's survived by her daughter, Anne Grace.
