The pilot of a small airplane died on Sunday afternoon due to the plane crashing just after takeoff from Bill and Hillary Clinton Airport in Arkansas.

The single-engine Cirrus SR 22 hit the ground near a building at the Little Rock airport and caught on fire.

The pilot was pronounced dead at the scene. He was the only one on board.

Eight fire units responded to the scene.

“It was a total loss,” Little Rock Fire Department Chief Delphone Hubbard said.

It was the second fatal crash in less than a year. Officials are investigating the cause of the crash.
