Hegseth confirmed as Defense secretary after Senate tie broken by Vance
Pete Hegseth has been confirmed as President Donald Trump's Defense secretary following a 50-50 tie in the Senate on Friday night that was broken by Vice President JD Vance.
Sens. Susan Collins (R-ME), Mitch McConnell (R-KY), and Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) all broke with the GOP to vote against Hegseth, creating the impasse and leading to Vance having to step in and cast his tie-breaking vote.
Hegseth was the subject of an extensive smear campaign involving questionable allegations from estranged family members that Democrats were more than happy to broadcast with little to no vetting.
The then-nominee faced allegations of sexual assault for months until it was finally clear to many that it was he who had been a victim of a woman who attempted to take advantage of him and then later accused him of being the assailant.
Thankfully, Hegseth overcame those attacks, but that didn't stop three GOP senators from showing their true colors and standing with Democrats against one of Trump's most important nominees.
The combat veteran and former Fox News host overcame this attack campaign largely due to an extensive strategy that involved meeting with individual senators and answering questions thoroughly, and now he has a mission to turn the U.S. military into a lethal, focused force after years of leftist social engineering.
