PA Supreme Court restores date requirement for mail-in ballots
The Pennsylvania Supreme Court has issued a ruling saying that "Pennsylvanians who vote by mail must write a proper date on their ballot envelopes for their votes to be counted."
It is anticipated that the decision could impact thousands of ballots this November.
The decision voids a Commonwealth Court ruling made back on Aug. 30 deciding that "enforcing the requirement on ballot dating violated voters’ rights under the state constitution."
It took a close 4-3 decision, but Pennsylvania's Supreme Court has officially reversed the outcome.
The "decision was based on whether the lower court had jurisdiction in the case, not on the merits of the underlying claim, meaning that the constitutional argument could be made again in court," according to VoteBeat.org.
The Republicans who appealed the lower court's decision had argued "that the petitioners failed to include all counties as parties to the case, among other claims."
Democrats are trying to make this election as muddy as possible, so any decision that strengthens voting requirements is a huge boost to Trump.
Will this decision make an impact in Trump's favor this November? Only time will tell.
