Former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) said Tuesday on MSNBC that Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) was an "appalling" choice for the job of speaker.

Pelosi told Joy Reid:

These House Republicans were just —they didn’t have any interest in the peaceful transfer of power. They were in denial about the election. And for all of the horror of that day, the violence, the desecration of the Capitol, this temple of democracy in the world, the violation of our Constitution, to have that day on the acceptance of the Electoral College vote. The whole thing, the assault on our democracy, after we went back to the Capitol, took the vote, overwhelmingly, the Republicans voted against accepting the results of the Electoral College. This person that they’re putting forth to be speaker of the House, it’s just appalling.

She went on to say that Jordan didn't have any legislation under his name other than an anti-abortion bill and that he voted against disaster relief (which is disingenuous because she lumped aid in with excessive spending).

Pelosi then went straight to the most overused line by Democrats in recent times:  “The public has to understand what is at stake. Our democracy is at stake.”

In truth, our democracy is much more threatened by $32 trillion in debt and open border policies that are letting hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants into the country every month.

A third vote to elect Jordan as speaker was expected on Thursday, though it was not clear that he had enough votes to succeed.
