Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), who was speaker of the House until January, said Sunday on MSNBC's Inside with Jen Psaki that she thinks focusing on abortion is the key to a winning election cycle for Democrats in 2024.

Pelosi argued that outrage over the overturning of Roe v. Wade by the U.S. Supreme Court in June of 2022 was the main reason Democrats were able to avoid larger losses in the midterm contests.

"Everybody said we're going to lose 30, 40 seats," she said. Instead, Republicans gained a minimal majority similar to the one the Democrats had had before the election.

She further argued that "our country has always been about expanding freedom," and that abortion restrictions curtail freedom instead.

It does seem true that most Americans think abortion is now being restricted too much, but abortion is an issue that should not be decided on popularity or what the majority of the people want. Furthermore, it is doubtful that people will ignore the country's economic peril to focus on abortion, when the time comes to vote.

Laws around murder are not decided based on the majority's opinion, and neither should abortion be. Republicans have to stand for what they think is right and trust God to work out the politics in the way he sees fit.
