As one of her last acts as speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) raised the salary cap for House staffers to its maximum amount, $212,000, according to The Hill.
This means that some staffers will be able to make up to $38,000 more than their bosses, the actual House representatives.
Base salary for representatives is $174,000, while those in leadership positions make a higher amount.
No staffer will be able to make more than Pelosi herself did as speaker, since her salary was $223,500.
Pelosi also set the minimum salary for staffers to $45,000, the first time such a floor has been set.
She said the changes were necessary so that the House could continue to attract the top talent it needs to function.
