Oprah Winfrey denied through a spokesperson that she floated the idea of running as Mitt Romney's VP in 2019 on an independent "unity" ticket aimed at stopping former President Donald Trump from being re-elected.

“In November 2019, Ms. Winfrey called Senator Romney to encourage him to run on an independent ticket,” said the spokesperson in a statement sent to multiple outlets. “She was not calling to be part of the ticket and was never considering running herself.”

A new biography about Romney made the claim that Winfrey was behind the push and was interested in being on the ticket.

Romney: A Reckoning, written by McKay Coppins of The Atlantic, said the request was made through Romney's wife Ann Romney, and that he considered it.

He “heard the pitch, and told her he was flattered, but that he’d have to pass,” an excerpt of the book published in the New York Times said.

Winfrey also reportedly told the Romneys that billionaire Mike Bloomberg asked her to be on a ticket with him, according to the same book.
