Ohio has slim chance to flip control of state Supreme Court to Democrats

Ohio's state Supreme Court has three positions up for election in November, and a sweep by Democrats could flip the court to the left for the first time in almost four decades.

Two of the three open seats are already Democrat-held, but the third seat is open and the only one that's competitive.

A sweep is unlikely in the state, which has turned more conservative in the last few elections, but Democrats are hoping abortion will be the issue that turns the tide their way.

A constitutional amendment guaranteeing women's "reproductive rights," including abortion, won with 57% of the vote in 2023, and the courts will undoubtedly be hearing many abortion-related challenges in the state.

Democrats will be spending a lot of money to try to convince voters they're going to have their rights taken away from them if they don't vote D.

Whether or not voters will go for it is anyone's guess; it seems like a long game to play and the consequences in other areas could be dire.
