Ohio Gov. DeWine, Lt. Gov. Husted meet with Trump regarding vacant US Senate seat
Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine needs to appoint a replacement for JD Vance in the U.S. Senate now that Vance is going to be America's next vice president.
As of right now, the frontrunner for that position is thought by many to be current Lt. Gov. Jon Husted.
Those claims were recently given some validity after it was confirmed that DeWine and Husted recently met together with President-elect Donald Trump at Mar-a-Lago in Florida.
The replacement will be named before Vance and Trump are inaugurated on Jan. 20.
"I've interviewed a number of people, talked to a number of people," DeWine told reporters in Columbus earlier this month. "A lot of people want to be senator -- quite an amazing number. We've had some contact with us about that. A lot of people have opinions around the state. So, we're in the process of reaching a decision."
Dewine's pick will be in place until at least a special election takes place in November of 2026. The winner of that election will then serve the remainder of Vance's term until 2028. At that point, the normal six-year cycle will go back into effect for this seat.
According to USA Today, some other names are also being considered for the spot, such as "Secretary of State Frank LaRose, Treasurer Robert Sprague, U.S. Rep. Mike Carey, state Sen. Matt Dolan, and former Ohio Republican Party Chair Jane Timken."
Who do you hope will replace Vance in Ohio?
