A revealing new book claims former President Barack Obama weakened the Democratic Party due to his focus on personal influence and new organizational ventures.

According to the New York Post, A new book titled “Fight: Inside the Wildest Battle for the White House” contends that Barack Obama distanced himself from traditional Democratic Party structures, which, along with other key decisions, contributed to a weakened state of the party after his presidency.

Published recently, the book brings to light how Obama, after his tenure in the White House, allegedly prioritized personal projects over party loyalty. One such venture was the creation of Organizing for Action in 2012, which sought to extend his campaign success into a broader political movement. This initiative, however, is said to have siphoned resources from the Democratic Party, creating competitiveness for influence and funds.

Barack Obama and the Black Professional Class

Obama's standing within the Democratic Party also became a topic of contention due to his perceived focus on currying favor with a select group of influential Black professionals. This pursuit, as described by the book, deviated from traditional party alignment and drew criticism from within.

Critics within the Democratic cadre have pointed to Obama's post-presidency strategy as a contributing factor to the party's vulnerabilities. The book outlines a particular operative's stark assessment, branding Obama's decisions as destructive to the party's potential and stability.

An ally of President Joe Biden suggested the difficulties faced by the Democratic Party post-Obama were compounded by key figures like Bill and Hillary Clinton, who exerted efforts to patch the party's foundational structures. This was part of a broader movement to realign and fortify the party against potential fragmentation by far-left elements.

Endorsement Delays and Their Consequences

Ahead of the 2024 presidential election, Obama refrained from endorsing then-current Vice President Kamala Harris, delaying a proclamation over concerns about her ability to contend with former President Donald Trump. The lack of an early endorsement sparked unease within the party, underscoring tensions in a critical election cycle.

It was not until five days after Biden chose to forego a reelection bid that Obama threw his support behind Harris. This delay reportedly strained relations with Harris's camp, who expected a more timely endorsement in a politically charged environment.

Meanwhile, Michelle Obama delivered a strong show of support at the Democratic National Convention in August 2024, aiming to consolidate party backing for Harris's presidential bid. She praised Harris's qualifications and character in an effort to galvanize support across the Democratic spectrum.

Obama's Disconnect with Contemporary Democratic Dynamics

As the Democratic Party sought to stabilize itself, some strategists opined that Obama remained detached from the party's evolving dynamics in the wake of Trump’s return to power in 2024. An op-ed by political commentator Ben Burgess critiqued Obama for his eloquent delivery and yet noted a critical disconnect regarding the societal and political shifts that gave rise to Trumpism.

Burgess noted that while Obama maintained his prowess as a compelling communicator, he failed to grasp the underlying issues that precipitated the emergence of Trump's political brand. Despite Obama's noted abilities in rhetoric and constitutional knowledge, his understanding of the electorate's shift continued to draw criticism from parts of the Democratic base.

Insights from Political Insiders

“Fight: Inside the Wildest Battle for the White House” incorporates insights garnered from more than 150 political insiders, painting a comprehensive picture of the Democratic Party's tumultuous journey post-Obama's presidency.

The portrayal of events and strategies suggests a deeper introspection within the Democratic establishment, as it grapples with redefining its core ethos and impact in the face of contemporary political challenges.

As the party endeavored to rebuild and reshape its identity, the lingering legacy of Obama's actions after his presidency remained a topic of debate and analysis among political strategists and operatives. The book's release has stirred conversations around how the Democratic Party can both honor past achievements and address present challenges as it navigates the volatile political landscape ahead.
