Obama tweets out false narrative about gun deaths of children

March 29, 2023

When you can't convince people to back your agenda by telling them the truth, just lie to them.

This seems to be the left's playbook on so many issues, and former President Barack Obama did it again on Twitter Monday evening in response to the latest mass shooting at a Christian elementary school in Nashville, Tennessee.

"We are failing our children. Guns are now the leading cause of death for children in the U.S.," Obama tweeted. "Michelle and I mourn with the students and families of the Covenant School today."

The false statement that guns are the number one killer of children dates back to a CDC claim from the summer of 2022, but when Breitbart News looked at the claims, it turns out the CDC counted 18 and 19-year-olds as children to get their total of 4,368 but didn't count those adults to get the vehicle death number of 4,036.

Breitbart found that firearm-related deaths for children aged 0-17 totaled 2,281 in 2020, while motor vehicle deaths for the same ages totaled 2,503. Looking at unintentional firearm deaths compared to unintentional vehicle-related deaths in 0-19-year-olds, the number is 27 to 1 with vehicle-related deaths being higher.

The false narrative will undoubtedly stick with the left, however, because it suits their purposes of restricting guns in violation of the Second Amendment of the Constitution. Shame on the CDC!
