Obama 'embracing' MAGA 'reality' according to political operatives
In the wake of President-elect Donald Trump's stunning election victory, smart Democrats and moderates are embracing the reality of the MAGA movement, which is far too large to be silenced or ignored.
And it appears as though former President Barack Obama is one of the major Democratic Party players leading the way in embracing the movement, as he and Trump went viral this week for an amiable moment they shared at the late President Jimmy Carter's funeral.
Mabinty Quarshie wrote a piece for the Washington Examiner this week titled, "Obama and Trump’s bromance latest sign of Democratic acceptance of MAGA ‘reality’" and pointed out that some Democrats are at least dropping the attack lines against Trump.
At Carter's funeral, which was held at the National Cathedral last week, Trump and Obama were seated next to each other, as two of the five living presidents to attend the funeral.
The two presidents made headlines after video footage captured them talking and even laughing about something.
Trump later broke his silence with regard to the unexpected moment after everyone raised questions as to what the conversation and laughter was all about.
"It did look very friendly, I must say," Trump said about his conversation with Obama. "I didn’t realize it how friendly it looked. I saw it on your wonderful network [Fox News], just a little while ago before I came in and I said, ‘Boy, they look like two people that like each other,’ and we probably do."
Trump continued by saying that he and Obama seemed to get along fine and that the two met backstage before the service.
"We have little different philosophies, right? We probably do. I don’t know. We just got along. But I got along with everybody on that. You know, we met backstage before we went on, and I thought it was a beautiful service, but we all got along very well, which is good," Trump said.
The two presidents, who have been bitter enemies at times in the past, sparked a mountain of speculation, and some criticized Obama for essentially proving that the Democrats' claimed hatred toward Trump was nothing more than a political talking point.
"For nine years, [Trump] is called a threat to democracy and Hitler," Ford O'Connell, a Florida-based Republican operative said.
He added, "You get the club of five together, and all of a sudden, the whole thing's a lie, which was obvious from day one. He was never a threat to democracy, but this is the narrative that Democrats push."
Expert lip readers attempted to decipher the conversation between the two men, but the topic of discussion remains uncertain.
Only time will tell if we ever find out what went down at the funeral.
