NYC Mayor Eric Adams shoots down resignation speculation
There's no longer a question about whether or not New York City Mayor Eric Adams will be resigning.
Adams himself shot down the "stupid" speculation while recently addressing religious leaders in Manhattan.
"Who started the stupid rumor that I was stepping down on Friday? Are you out of your mind?" Adams told the crowd to loud applause.
"And you know what’s fascinating, you have to be of a great level of wisdom to understand what is playing out on the stage of politics in New York City," he continued. "You gotta focus on this, folks. How do you print a rumor that I’m resigning on Friday, but don’t print the facts that we had more jobs in the city’s history on that same day."
"Not one tabloid covered it," he went on.
Rumors of Adams' resignation exploded after former City Council member Sal Albanese wrote on Jan. 28 that the mayor "is cutting a deal with Feds & resigning in 72 hours."
Those 72 hours have come and gone, and Adams is still the mayor of New York City.
If Adams has been out of the spotlight lately, it isn't because he's resigning, it's because he hasn't "been feeling his best" and has been at the doctor for "routine medical tests."
With regard to his health, Adams said that last week "was a scary week for me, it was hard." However, he did not discuss his upcoming federal criminal trial.
