Noted anti-Trumper Justin Amash defends Trump's actions following 2020 election

 August 7, 2023

Former Republican Justin Amash, who joined the Libertarian Party after he lost his seat due to his anti-Trump stance, came out in defense of the former president's actions following the 2020 presidential election.

Donald Trump is being indicted on charges related to the Jan. 6th protest, and surprisingly, Amash is siding with Trump and defending his conduct.

Amash took to Twitter to say, "I may not like Trump, but I love our Constitution, so I feel compelled to speak out. The latest indictment, which I encourage everyone to read, attempts to criminalize Trump’s routine misstatements of fact and law in connection with the 2020 election. But this is precisely the sort of wrong that must be addressed politically under our Constitution, not criminally."

The indictment of Trump is based on allegations that he deliberately misrepresented facts about the election in order to overturn the outcome. Those allegations are completely baseless, but Democrats have run with them regardless of the truth.

Amash continued by saying, "Our system can’t survive if political disputes are removed to the criminal realm. There’s no limiting principle to such an approach. Remind me again which former presidents have been indicted for going to war without congressional approval, spying on Americans in violation of the Fourth Amendment, abusing emergency declarations to bypass checks and balances, or ignoring legal advisers to pursue a clearly unlawful policy."

The issue is that Democrats know the only way they can stop Trump is to convict him of some crime. They aren't interested in political stability; they are only interested in defeating Trump and maintaining power.
