California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) met with President Donald Trump on Wednesday with hat in hand, asking for federal money to fund wildfire recovery, even as he reportedly agreed to let his state legislature spend $50 million on anti-Trump measures.

“As we approach one month since the devastating wildfires across Southern California, we continue to cut red tape to speed up recovery and clean up efforts as well as ensure rebuilding efforts are swift. We’re working across the aisle, as we always have, to ensure survivors have the resources and support they need,” Newsom wrote in a statement.

“Thank you, President Trump, for coming to our communities to see this first hand and meeting with me today to continue our joint efforts to support people impacted," he went on.

Newsom has not signed or vetoed the two legislature bills, which would fund lawsuits against Trump executive orders by the state attorney general and illegal immigrant organizations.

Maybe he's waiting until Trump decides whether to give him the money before making the bills official.

If Trump is aware of the legislation, maybe he's waiting to see what Newsom does before making a determination on giving the aid. Newsom has already signed a $2.5 billion relief bill for wildfire recovery, but hundreds of billions may be needed.
