New poll claims 71% of Republicans want Trump back in White House

April 27, 2023

A new NPR/PBS NewsHour/Marist National Poll found that 71% of Republicans want to see former President Donald Trump back in the White House, and 63% want him there even if he is convicted of a crime.

While that number is encouraging for Trump's campaign, the poll showed it won't be enough for Trump to be re-elected because of his extremely low support among Democrats.

When all voters were asked if they want Trump to be president again, only 34% said yes, while 64% said no.

It seems like Republicans are making a mistake to back Trump in such large numbers. He may get the nomination easily, but he won't win the White House with numbers like these.

Of course, more voters may choose Trump when he is positioned against a very weak President Joe Biden, who just doesn't seem to be able to do anything right, but it's really a crapshoot between the two most flawed candidates in their respective fields.

What are Republicans thinking?
