New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu Will Not Seek Reelection

 July 21, 2023

New Hampshire Republican Governor Chris Sununu has announced that his decision has been made:

Sununu will not seek reelection as New Hampshire's governor, a position that he has held since 2016.

New Hampshire holds its gubernatorial contests every two years, and Sununu has won them all from 2016 until now. Sununu is currently in the middle of his fourth term.

"After much consideration, I have decided not to run for another term as Governor in 2024," he said. "Be assured we will keep working and that the Granite State will continue to be our priority for the next 18 months." The governor added:

Public service should never be a career, and the time is right for another Republican to lead our great state. This was no easy decision as I truly love serving as governor.

Many speculated that Sununu might be making an effort toward America's presidency in 2024, although the governor himself recently disputed that, saying:

We’ve taken the last six months to really kind of look at things, where everything is. And I’ve made the decision not to run for president on the Republican ticket in 2024.
