Nancy Mace: 'It's going to be very difficult' to work with 'fraud' Matt Gaetz

Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) says she thinks "it's going to be very difficult" to work with "fraud" Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) and his Freedom Caucus in the coming term of Congress because of Gaetz's shady tactics and extreme views.

"It’s going to be very difficult," she said on CBS's Face the Nation. "Matt Gaetz is a fraud. Every time he voted against Kevin McCarthy last week he sent out a fundraising email. What you saw last week was a constitutional process diminished by those kinds of political actions. I don’t support that kind of behavior."

Mace said her district has many Democrats and independents that she needs to represent, and she hoped the power gained by the Freedom Caucus during negotiations for their speaker votes wouldn't make that impossible.

"I am concerned that common sense legislation will not get through to get a vote on the floor," she said, giving the example of pro-life bills that give women more access to birth control as a way of preventing abortions.

"If you can reduce pregnancies, you can reduce the need or want for women to have abortions, for example, a very common sense pragmatic point of view. But that’s not what we’re going to be voting on this week. And I am concerned I want to see pragmatic- pragmatics at work, common sense, fiscal, conservative issues at work that represent all views," she said.

Mace also said it would be difficult to work with Rep. George Santos (R-NY), who admitted to falsifying his resume in significant ways, because she can't "trust" him.
