Multiple House Democrats demanded Joe Biden drop out in call with Hakeem Jeffries

 July 8, 2024

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) held a phone call with powerful House Democrats on Sunday and reportedly four House Democratic committee leaders demanded that President Joe Biden step down.

The call was put together for House Democrats to discuss the future of President Biden's campaign following his disastrous debate performance which put his health issues on display to the whole nation.

So far, five House Democrats have made public calls on Biden to step aside which means that there are a dozen or so others who want Biden to step aside but aren't ready to go on record.

One senior House Democrat told Axios that Reps. Jerry Nadler (D-NY), Joe Morelle (D-NY), Adam Smith (D-WA), and Mark Takano (D-CA), who chair the Judiciary, House Administration, Armed Services and Veterans Affairs panels, all called for Biden to step down.

Essentially, most of the House Democrat leadership wants Biden to get out of the way before he costs the Democrat Party the presidency and in crucial down-ballot races.

So far, Biden has been defiant and is showing no signs of stepping aside. Even if Biden does eventually bow to the pressure, Democrats still have to find a suitable replacement, which doesn't seem to exist.
