Members of the Dewhurst Township in central Wisconsin were shocked and saddened to learn of a tragic and deadly collision over the weekend that claimed the lives of many.

According to ABC News, at least nine are dead and one injured after "a semi-trailer truck collided with a van at a highway intersection," authorities said.

According to a report from the Clark County Sheriff's Office, "The incident occurred in Dewhurst Township in central Wisconsin on Friday, at the intersection of Highway 95 and County Road J."

The semi-truck was reportedly traveling eastbound, and the van was traveling northbound coming into an intersection. The violent collision of the two vehicles occurred just before 8 a.m. local time, police said.

ABC News noted:

Eight people in the van, including the driver, and the driver of the semi were pronounced dead at the scene, the sheriff's office said. The lone survivor, a passenger in the van, was transported to a local hospital for their injuries, the sheriff's office said. Their condition was not released.

Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers (D) released a statement in the wake of the crash, offering his condolences to the family and friends of the victims of the horrific accident.

"Kathy and I are saddened today by the fatal crash that occurred in Clark County, tragically taking nine lives," Evers wrote on social media. "Our hearts and prayers go out to the families and loved ones of all those involved, as well as the first responders who worked quickly to provide support at the scene."

The situation shocked the Amish community, according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, as seven of the nine fatalities involved in the accident were "members of an Amish community from Burke's Garden in Tazewell County, Virginia, who were traveling to Wisconsin."

The sheriff's office did not immediately release the names of the victims, but an Amish community information line released the identities. The victims ranged in age from 18-45, according to the report.

The Amish information line's statement read, "Having nine lives snuffed out in one accident there's a tremendous shock. No words can explain, it is totally beyond our comprehension."

The only survivor of the crash was the two-year-old son of one of the families involved in the horrific accident.

Social media users offered condolences to the victim's families.

"The deceased ones, may their souls rest in peace. Injured ones, I wish you all quick recovery. All road users should be careful," one X user wrote.
