Movie legend James Earl Jones dead at 93

Award-winning actor James Earl Jones died Monday at home in New York, according to a statement by his family.

Jones was best known as the deep, booming voice of Darth Vader in the Star Wars movies, along with roles in Field of Dreams, The Hunt for Red October, and Coming to America. He was the voice of Mufasa in Disney's megahit, The Lion King."

Jones "passed away this morning at his home in Dutchess County, New York, surrounded by family," his representative said in a statement.

He was one of only a few actors to win the EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, Tony) during his career.

Even before his film career began, Jones was a famous Shakespearean actor on stage in the 1950s.

He was a Kennedy Center Honoree in 2002; he also received a lifetime achievement award from the Screen Actors Guild in 2009 and one from the National Board of Review in 1995.
