Modelo dethrones Bud Light as country's top-selling beer

Bud Light is no longer the top-selling beer in the U.S., according to new sales numbers, which show significant declines in sales since April.

Modelo has taken the top spot with 8.4% of all sales. Bud Light had 7.3% of sales.

Bud Light's sales have declined around 25% since April due to conservatives boycotting the beverage.

Parent company Anheuser Busch is hoping the Memorial Day to July 4th holiday and summer period will help revive the beer's sales.

Some independent distributors have had to lay off personnel in order to stay afloat.

Bud Light was known as a low-priced beer that had high sales because it was affordable for people who like to drink a lot.
