Mitch McConnell Under Care At Inpatient Rehab Facility

 March 23, 2023

There is no known timetable for the release of Senator Mitch McConnell from an inpatient rehabilitation facility.

The Republican from Kentucky was placed in the rehab facility after being discharged from the hospital in mid-March. He had been hospitalized after tripping at a private dinner in Washington, D.C. hosted by the Senate Leadership Fund.

Wade S. Smith, chief of the neurovascular division at the University of California at San Francisco, said that McConnell's injuries suffered during the fall may have some lingering impact:

Concussion is a common problem that can cause lingering symptoms for a while. If you have ever had a concussion, you know that getting back to normal may take some time.

The doctor added that McConnell's rib fracture could be "extraordinarily painful" for weeks.

Mitch McConnell was first elected in 1984 and became the longest-serving Senate party leader in history after winning recent reelection as Senate GOP leader. However, there were ten votes against him for the first ever in his entire career.
