Missouri mom charged after 'accidentally' putting baby into oven, thinking it was crib

A 26-year-old Missouri mom has been charged in the death of her one-month-old baby after claiming that she "accidentally" put the infant in the oven thinking it was a crib and then baked the little girl to death.

Mariah Thomas was charged with endangering the welfare of a child after police found her daughter Za'Riah Mae in an infant car seat with blackened clothing fused to her diaper and burn marks across her body.

Thomas was said to have mental health issues. She called her father -- the baby's grandfather -- after the baby died and told him to come home because something was wrong with the infant.

Police also found a charred blanket that they took as evidence.

Thomas was taken to the police station but pleaded the fifth while there.

Social media showed Thomas doting on her daughter but also feeling somewhat isolated when people weren't visiting her and the child.
