Missouri attorney general pushing for Kim Gardner's resignation after parolee on supposed house arrest injures volleyball player

The Missouri attorney general is calling for the resignation of Democratic St. Louis Circuit Attorney Kim Gardner after a robbery suspect out on bond with more than 50 bond condition violations crashed into a teen volleyball player, causing both of her legs to be amputated.

Andrew Bailey, a Republican, gave Gardner until Thursday to step down or he will try to have her removed from office.

“Instead of protecting victims, Circuit Attorney Gardner is creating them,” Bailey said in a statement. “My office will do everything in its power to restore order, and eliminate the chaos in St. Louis caused by Kim Gardner’s neglect of her office.”

Gardner said she tried to get higher bond for the defendant and blamed the judge in the case.

“Judges have the sole authority to determine the bond conditions of a defendant,” Gardner said. “Bond violations and decisions do not solely rest on the shoulders of prosecutors. In this matter, prosecutors asked on several occasions for higher bonds, and those requests were denied.”

Her supporters are claiming that her opponents want her out of the picture because they are racist, but this is far from the first instance of Gardner being soft on crime, and some have finally had enough.
