Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer attacks Ron DeSantis for fearmongering

February 14, 2023

Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer (D) attacked Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) during an interview on CNN’s State of the Union on Sunday. Whitmer claimed that DeSantis's governorship was "incredibly destructive."

Anchor Jake Tapper asked Whitmer "Do you think that he [DeSantis] poses a real threat to Democrats if he ends up being the Republican nominee?”

Whitmer responded by saying, "I don’t really know Ron DeSantis, so it’s hard for me to say anything real substantiative, other than I’ll say this – when I took my oath of office, I took an oath to be the governor for all of the people of Michigan. I don’t wage culture wars. I fight culture wars because I’m focused on solving problems. I think it’s incredibly destructive when people just try to pit others against one another, stoke fear. I think that’s a really destructive way to lead. And so that, you know, we’ll watch and see what happens. As I said, I don’t know him."

That answer is ironic considering Whitmer was one of the most tyrannical governors during the Covid-19 lockdowns.

Whitmer was so determined to clamp down on her citizens that she banned the sale of seeds and other gardening equipment during the pandemic.

Whitmer went on to say, "Every governor takes an oath to serve all the people in their state, whether they voted for them or not. That’s what should drive every decision.” Whitmer wasn't serving her citizens when she used the pandemic to grab power and crush freedoms.
