Former first lady Michelle Obama allegedly prevented Meghan Markle, the controversial Duchess of Sussex, from making a play for Sen. Dianne Feinstein's (D-CA) former seat in the upper chamber.
Markle, who has been growing close to the Obamas ever since she and her husband, Prince Harry, left the United Kingdom, was reportedly caught off guard about being passed over because of the former first cople.
A source close to the Duchess claimed, "To be backstabbed like this by someone she actually considered a friend and potential ally is just too much."
California Gov. Gavin Newsom ultimately chose Laphonza Butler, who was also a controversial selection, to fill Feinstein's Senate seat.
The former royal couple have been using the Obamas to make connections among America's political and social elite after burning every bridge they could in the U.K.
However, with the Obamas now shutting down Markle's political ambitions, it seems that the relationship has gone sour.
