President-elect Donald Trump doesn't take office for almost two months, but he announced Wednesday that he already has a deal with Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum that includes her promise to stop illegal immigrants from getting to the U.S. border by going through Mexico, "effective immediately."

"Just had a wonderful conversation with the new President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo," he wrote on Truth Social. "She has agreed to stop Migration through Mexico, and into the United States, effectively closing our Southern Border. We also talked about what can be done to stop the massive drug inflow into the United States, and also, U.S. consumption of these drugs. It was a very productive conversation!"

While Sheinbaum reported having a "good conversation" with Trump, she didn't indicate that Mexico's policy would change.

According to the Associated Press, Sheinbaum said that Mexico is already “taking care of” migrant caravans.

“We reiterate that Mexico’s position is not to close borders but to build bridges between governments and between peoples,” Sheinbaum added.

Trump had threatened to impose 25% tariffs on Mexican imports.
