Meta settles Trump lawsuit over suspended accounts for $25M
Facebook and Instagram's parent company, Meta, agreed on Wednesday to pay a $25 million settlement to President Donald Trump to end a lawsuit over its suspension of Trump's accounts after the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol breach.
Trump's Facebook and Instagram accounts were suspended for more than two years after the mainstream media tried to blame Trump for the breach and say that he instigated it.
Of the settlement, company spokesperson Andy Stone said that $22 million will go toward Trump's presidential library fund, and the other $3 million will be for legal fees and compensating other plaintiffs in the case. The settlement does not require the company to acknowledge any wrongdoing, Stone was quick to point out.
Still, it signals a continuing effort to align with Trump as Mark Zuckerberg already donated $1 million to Trump's inauguration.
It's a good thing that Meta wants to end its censoring ways and recognizes that its efforts weren't even effective- -- after all, Trump is president.
The political winds are changing, and for once they are going in the right direction.
