McCarthy sees big bump in approval since becoming speaker

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) has seen a significant bump in approval since becoming speaker, with more voters looking at him favorably than unfavorably in the latest poll.

Forty-four percent of respondents in the Economist/YouGov poll said they somewhat or strongly approved of McCarthy's job performance as speaker.

Only 37% said they disapproved of his job as speaker, and 19% weren't sure.

The approval numbers are up from 36% that approved or somewhat approved of his performance when he was minority leader, while 44$ disapproved. That's a 15-point move from negative to positive, with a net positive approval rating of +7 points now.

McCarthy has not been able to accomplish many of his legislative goals because the Senate is still controlled by Democrats, but he has been able to spearhead investigations into Democrats for corruption and weaponizing the government against conservatives.

Seems like a lot of voters like those actions.
