"I believe I can continue to fight, maybe in a different manner," McCarthy told a packed Capitol room after his ouster.
"I will not run for Speaker again, I’ll have the conference pick somebody else."
One thing that McCarthy was NOT willing to do was express any regrets about his journey to become the speaker of the House.
"Doing the right thing isn’t always easy, but it is necessary," Kevin said. "I don’t regret standing up for choosing governing over grievance."
The harsh reality is that he didn't have enough support from his own party to maintain the position. He noted:
Unfortunately, 4% of our conference can join all the Democrats and dictate who can be the Republican Speaker in this House.
