Was it a perfectly innocent comment or a quid pro quo?
Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) is under fire for saying that Judge Aileen Cannon was a "future supreme court justice" after she dropped the charge against former President Donald Trump that he mishandled classified documents.
Trump appointed Cannon to the federal bench in Florida in November 2020 at the end of his first term.
Anti-Trump strategist and commentator Ally Sammarco asked Gaetz on X: “Are you admitting to a quid pro quo?"
Gaetz calls himself "Florida man" and has been known to stir up trouble, most notably leading the effort to get rid of Speaker Kevin McCarthy last year.
There is speculation that Gaetz is preparing to enter the race to become Florida's governor next year.
