Manchin being watched as Sinema leaves Democrat Party

December 13, 2022

Some political experts are now wondering if Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) will follow the lead of Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (I-AZ) in leaving the Democrat Party.

Sinema made the move on Friday to register as an independent but said she will keep her committee assignments and continue to caucus with Democrats.

Manchin has even more cause to leave the party than Sinema does, given that Democrats double-crossed him earlier this year.

He voted for the trillion-dollar so-called Inflation Reduction Act in exchange for their support on permitting reform and a pipeline project initiative, but those things never materialized.

Manchin would fit right in with the GOP if he decided to make a move, but he seemed more comfortable being the fly in Democrats' ointment that prevented them from achieving several additional large spending packages as well as nuking the filibuster.

Now the Senate will be split 51-49 but nuking the filibuster will be pointless with a House GOP majority to block court-packing and other brilliant Democrat ideas. My guess is that Manchin will be staying right where he is.
