A man who stabbed a 94-year-old Asian woman multiple times received probation for his crimes after telling the judge he suffered "trauma" and crying in the courtroom.

Daniel Cauich stabbed Anh "Peng" Taylor, a Chinese and Vietnamese immigrant, a number of times in San Francisco in broad daylight in June 2021.

His crime was caught on camera during a time of increased attacks on Asians in America.

Judge Kay Tsenin ordered Cauich to a five-year supervisory program as part of his probation. The program involves being housed in a facility with little freedom.

"I am giving you one last chance to stay out of state prison Tsenin told Cauich after his attorney told the court he was homeless and had been run over by a car when the stabbing occurred.

Prosecutors had asked for a sentence of 12 years in prison for the crimes and said the victim, who survived the stabbing and is still alive, was "denied justice."
