Man sentenced to prison for killing White House worker

 June 11, 2024

Luis Merino Berrios was just 18 years old in March 2023, which means that he still has a lot of life remaining in which he will have to live with the decisions he made at that time.

Berrios has just been sentenced to a year in prison for being the cause of a crash that killed a White House worker while she walked on the sidewalk near her Fairfax County home,

Berrios has pleaded guilty to reckless driving and has received the maximum sentence possible for that crime.

He was operating his vehicle at least 80 mph, which, no matter which road you're on, is probably too fast, and that is when his car struck another car and swerved up onto the sidewalk.

Samantha Jennings-Jones, 36, out for a walk at the time, was killed.

Jennings-Jones was born in South Korea and adopted by a couple in Maryland when she was just two months old and went on to secure employment with the federal government.

Samantha was honored with a burial in Arlington Cemetery, and a conference room at the White House will be named after her.
